What a day for the mighty young Dingoes. After a year of great improvement, we arrived at the Lightning Premiership really excited and ready for the challenge. Sadly, our running machine in James Burren couldn’t make it but we wished him well for the state cross-country champ’s.
Game 1: Dingley 4.6.30 d Beaumaris 1.4.10
The first match as we kicked off the dew at 9 o’clock on one of the small grounds, was against Beaumaris. After losing the toss and kicking into the strong breeze, we came home with the said wet sail and won well. The small ground suited our tough “in and under” brigade and we took the initiative from the first bounce in terms of the hard-ball gets. A great start from the boys.
Highlights
Cody and Ky set the example from the first bounce, crashing in repeatedly and winning clearance after clearance. The bulldozer in Mitch and the terrier in Clancy also had a bit to say about winning the hard ball. The game opened up a bit in the second half and we showed a bit of the running play that was evident on the bigger grounds with Lachie Scott setting up a couple of passages and Bailey, Liam and Lachie Newman all chiming in with precision passing by hand and foot.
Game 2: Dingley 4.5.29 d East Sandy 2.5.17 (extra time)
Next up we were matched against the only side to have beaten us during the year, the top-side in East Sandy. After a false start due to the double-booking of one of the bigger grounds, we again lost the toss and kicked into the breeze on that same small oval. What a ripper of a game this turned out to be. The match was drawn at the end of regulation time and after no goals were scored in the first half of extra time, we bounded home with 2 in the last five minutes to win and set ourselves up to qualify top for the semi-finals.
Highlights
Highlights of the first half were a strong leaping chest mark from jumpin’ Jack, a blind-turn in heavy traffic from Grant, an inspirational chest mark from the cold-suffering James Matic as the pack charged toward him, a gutsy mark from Lachie Newman running with the flight of the ball, Lachie Sinclair and Cody combining for a couple of gives and shepherds and an absolute “hanger” from Adam. The highlights increased in the second half and during extra time, with the shepherding and support of team-mates really lifting. Lachie Newman and Riley both effected smothers, the rolls-royce in Lachs upped the ante, the Kampers were “mean-as” down back, Jack leaving the Zebra forwards in his wake a couple of times and the Tinman started to warm to a few heavy clashes. The 2 centre-halfs (who happened to be captains for this game), in Zane and the gps, also had a big influence on this game, controlling the tempo and kicking the ball long with the wind. Liam really relished his role in the ruck and fought harder than ever, Cameron displayed his typical determination in locking the ball in the pocket and Adam took another hanger! Lachie Scott and Tinman finished the game off with fantastic goals in the last 5 minutes.
Game 3: Dingley 7.1.43 d St Kilda 2.4.16
After winning our first 2 games, we were supposed to be drawn an easier game in the 3rd, but the young Saints took it up to us early. As was customary, we kicked into the wind to start and scores were even at the half. Again, we bolted home in the second to record a 27 point win and progress to the semi’s.
Highlights
The first half was pretty tough but we still showed great desire. James McLaren got into the act with a great intercept and pass, jumpin’ Jack continued to present off his flank, Jake had a number of possessions and shared the ball well, while the rolls-royce displayed great use of his body in taking a fine contested mark. Bailey again showed his class with a handball and shepherd and Lachie Newman bounced back after an earlier scare with an injured leg, to deliver a couple of his “rip the ball out of the pack and run like mad” passages. Josh stormed out on a lead and knocked a couple of Saints over in the process. Downwind in the second, we got on a roll. Sam and Jack drove us forward with long kicks off their flanks, Liam effected a fantastic smother, jumpin Jack had a huge fist out of a ruck contest, while the gps and Bailey ran amok across half-forward.
Semi-Final: Dingley 0.1.1 lt Mordi-Brae 1.2.8
The semi against Mordi-Brae was our first game for the day on one of the bigger grounds and it took a few minutes to adjust. Some of our hard-nuts looked a little jaded at the start, but once things settled, they were back into it. Some of the desperation and hard running in this game was awesome, the boys gave a huge effort but things just weren’t going their way. A couple of telling overhead marks from Mordi-Brae across half-back were instrumental in keeping us out in the second half and they emerged deserved winners. Our guys were well and truly spent at the end of the game, they really gave their all.
Highlights
The first stanza commenced with the Dingoes pushing up into the breeze (again). Liam started well in the ruck, more focussed and determined than I’d ever seen him, the terrier had responded well to his role as captain and was loving the wide-open spaces, running hard to contests, while Lachs, gps and Bailey combined for a crowd-pleasing run down the Dandenong Ranges side of the ground. The 2 Lachs (Sinclair and Newman) across the full-back line also had great halves, James Matic took another strong mark in the back-pocket but we couldn’t get the ball deep enough forward. The second half saw Ky, Sam and Jack combine for a blistering run through the centre, the gps back up for numerous 2nd efforts, Zane resolute across half-back and the Tinman bust his chops getting to contest after contest but the Mordi-Brae’s would not relent. The siren sounded to end the game and our season and the boys were spent, at least until the soft drinks and pizzas arrived!
GREAT YEAR DINGOES- WELL DONE!
Dingley 2.3.15 lost to East Sandringham 5.6.36
We presented ourselves for a home match at the Heatherton ground – for which was the first time the boys had played there.
Captains for the day were Kye, Cody and Jack K and they were very keen to put in a top notch effort for the day. We were down to 22 players with the late withdrawal of Josh and the Tin Man on the family road trip to Sydney
The boys were ready to fight hard and into the wind we went with the first play deep into the forward line and just missed the opportunity to kick the first goal.
The backline were working hard with a great smother from Grant, Kye was in and under the packs and Adam terrific in his new role in the backline saving a certain goal and Clancy full of run out of defence.
At Quarter time scores were all tied up at 1 point each.
The boys were ready to put the scoreboard pressure on in the second quarter, with the wind not as strong at the start of the game, we had some continuous attacks on the ball, Mitchell getting in the action early, with support from Lachlan Newman across half back. Nice handball from Zane to Lachlan Scott was great, the backline was continuously under pressure trying to keep the ball out. At half time Dingley 0.2.2 to East Sandringham 2.3.15
A few changes at half time were needed and the boys were ready to work hard. There were some exciting passages of play through the middle with Bailey, Lachlan S and Tom working well. Great movement into the forward line with Adam almost scoring our first goal. Jack Farrington played well across CHB with support from Kye a great bump and rewarded free kick to Cody was fantastic. At 3 quarter time Dingley 0.2.2 to East Sandringham 4.5.29
The boys were asked to keep working hard in the last quarter, some great work by James M and Sam working hard off the back flank, a ripper shepherd by Jake, which assisted with our first goal of the game to Cody. More good work from the team and we were attacking soon after with a great mark and play on from Cody which resulted in the second of the day. Final score Dingley 2.3.15 to East Sandringham 5.6.36
Dingley 13.14.92 d Oakleigh 0.2.2
It was a soggy Souter Oval that was laid before us as we took on the Dragons from Oakleigh on the 12th. After a struggle at the last start, Coach Leeson had reverted to a more conventional set-up for the start of this one. Captains for the day were a couple of skilful cubs in Lachie Scott and Bailey. The Dragons won the toss and kicked with a strong breeze in the first.
The Dingoes started well into the breeze, with Zane getting his hands on it in the ruck and Ky winning everything in the centre. Ky and Lachie Sinclair combined for a lovely little 1-2, while Lachie Sinclair also kept his head over the ball on a couple of other occasions, not giving the opposition a chance. Lachie Newman was his usual fierce self, handing out a ripper of a “don’t-argue” along the way, the “bulldozer” in Mitchell pushed forward when called into the centre and showed his trademark determination when the ball didn’t come back to him after a bounce, while Bailey and Tom (2) both kicked excellent goals. The highlight of the quarter, though, was a passage of play that included a strong overhead mark by “the gps” and ended with a goal to the ferocious Cameron after he won a contested ball in the square. The crowd rose as one; great stuff Cam.
We had the assistance of the wind in the second term and there was more of what we saw in the first. The terrier in Clancy set the tone with some hard running and shepherding, the gps was dominating up forward, kicking another 2 goals for the term, Liam was getting in on the act, Grant was ripping the ball out of opposition hands and Mitch pulled off a desperate smother. The boys were really using the ball well, creating space, looking for each other and some flowing play eventuated. This was highlighted by a pass from Zane to Liam, a long pass from Jack to Liam, who centred to Adam for a goal and another passage from Bailey to Tom to Josh who was so close to his first goal, hitting the post. Another pleasing thing in this quarter was the discipline of the back-line in holding their positions. Riley, James Matic, Mitchell and Cody all stuck to their opposition but continually kept an eye on the goal-square and dropped back when required. 54 points up at half-time.
The desperation continued to show after half-time and we ran out comfortable 90 point winners. James Burren had an excellent last half with a number of bustling runs, Cody had a big 3rd quarter on the ball, jumpin’ Jack played a great 4-quarter game and really shone on the wing, Lachie Scott set up a number of plays with his creative passing, Riley had a top last quarter up-forward with long penetrating kicks into the square and the tinman also had a good last quarter with plenty of running and bumping and a goal.
The attack on the ball was first-class, the running into space and foot-passing is improving every week and the teamwork continues to rate highly. We are beginning to get more disciplined down back, the discipline in keeping the forward-line open is what we need to work on currently; we are just a little bit keen to run ahead of the ball in numbers!!
Great game Dingoes.
GO DINGOES!!!!!!!!!
Goals – Tom (4), Cody (2), Adam, Cameron, Tanner, James B, Bailey, Liam, Lach Scott.
Best Players – James B, Tom, Cameron, Ky, Jack F, Adam.
Dingley 5.9.39 d St Bedes Mentone 4.4.28
The young cubs headed bay-side, with the aid of a sleep-in on the 28th, courtesy of a 10am start. ‘Twas a beautiful, clear day that confronted us as Clancy & Riley flipped the coin at the helm of the Dingo machine.
After having the boys in regular positions over the last few weeks, the Super-coach threw them around this week to spice things up a little. It took a while for some of the lads to settle into their new positions, but the Kamper twins were on fire early. Jack, in particular, was in everything; following up a strong mark, with a number of hard-ball gets, handballs and a couple of good shepherds. Lachie Newman and Lach Scott started well, sharing the ball and shepherding each other, Josh pulled off a great smother, Adam crossed to the top of the square in very disciplined fashion, while “The Terrier” chalked up a number of hard-ball gets. The quarter finished with a classy piece of work from Bailey, winning the ball under pressure, then hitting the ample chest of jumpin’ Jack, lace-out. We hadn’t kicked a goal at the break but were up by 4 points.
The second quarter started with a great passage from Lach Scott to Mitch, onto jumpin’ Jack who pulled in a freakish one-hander, then kicked truly. Jack returned the favour shortly after, with the dead-eyed Lachs slotting one through. Jumpin’ Jack has had a couple of great weeks, leading strongly into space on numerous occasions. Sam continued to break the lines in the guts, Zane was throwing his weight around at CHB, Adam produced a couple of precision passes and James Matic laid a couple of big bumps on his wing. The boys were sharing the ball well, highlighted by a passage of play after Ky kicked in from a behind, onto Bailey, who ran his full measure and hit Jack K who had led well. Ten points up at half-time.
Back with the breeze in the third and the term started with a couple of strong plays from the hard-nuts in Cody and “The Tin-man”. Riley delivered a lovely pass over to “The Roach” and followed up with a shepherd, while Liam started a great passage with a handball over to Bailey, then cleared his path with a big bump. We had plenty of the ball but a number of players were out chasing bay-side babes and kicks and not keeping their positions. A goal each for the quarter and we were 11 points up at the last break and heading up into the breeze in the last.
The Mentonians kicked the first couple of the last quarter in the first 2 minutes and had hit the lead. This seemed to stir the young cubs from their slumber and the last 10 minutes saw our best footy of the match. A bit more discipline returned and the boys seemed much more intent on winning the hard-ball. Mitch tore away from the last line with a bullocking, trade-mark run while for the second week in a row, Cody ruled the back-line in the last quarter; resolute in defence, then charging forward when the occasion warranted. Ky, James Matic and Clancy all lifted and gave hard contests, Liam and Grant provided drive off the flanks with Liam taking a strong chest-mark 30 metres out and almost scoring. Bailey & “The GPS” were winning the ball across the centre and with the game to be won, the big-bloke at full-forward in Tin-man, scrounged a couple of goals from within the square, clinching the win.
It was pleasing to see the boys respond the way they did in the last 10 minutes but they seem to need a challenge to really knuckle down. We still have a bit of work to do in keeping our positions and playing 4 quarters. A week off awaits, a chance to re-charge the batteries and prepare for a barnstorming finish from the mighty red, black & gold.
GO DINGOES!!!!!!!!!

Dingley 4.2.26 d Beaumaris 2.0.12
News had filtered across from the western side of the highway that the might of the Dingoes would be up against a strong Beaumaris side at home on the 21st. A vociferous crowd had gathered as skippers for the day in Lachie Newman and Jake won the toss and kicked to the golf-course end.
The pride of the Dingoes’ Den got off to a text book start as Zane won the first tap to Lachie Scott who burst from the centre and hit Jumpin’ Jack on the chest at half forward. Jack and Lachs were in everything early but Beauy scored the first goal before a ripper of a handball over the top from Adam set Zane up and we were away. Liam slotted another and we were 7 points up at the first break. It was a fairly willing opening quarter, with both sides desperate in the clinches. Another great start from Lachie Newman, who is making CHB his own, with that hard-nut approach and trademark run.
Zane and Lachs again started well in the second stanza and a handball from Josh gave Liam the goal-kicking machine his second. The young dingo cubs were really giving a contest; Ky was terrorising the Sharks at the clearances, winning plenty of contested ball, Bailey pulled off a desperate smother, Cameron was fighting hard as always up forward, Tanner and Grant squashed some young Shark (they’re pups by the way!) with a sandwiching hip and shoulder, and James Burren was fired up at CHB, delivering a couple of strong bumps. Sam finished the quarter off with a strong chest mark and we were still 7 points up at the half after a goal each in the second.
The desperation of the Dingoes continued to show through the third, with Ky continuing to win the hard-balls in the centre and Lachie Newman marshalling his troops in defence, playing a real skipper’s game. It was fantastic to see Lachie’s leadership, telling his defensive team-mates where to stand, when to drop back etc; great stuff young fella! The “gps” in Tom started to have some influence with a couple of bumps and a great pass to Lachie Scott that set up a goal. Grant started to get his hands on the ball and set up team-mates with handballs, Clancy used his pace to put lots of pressure on the defence from his FP, James Burren had a great quarter in the ruck, Bailey went on a crowd-pleasing run and topped it off with a lace-out pass while the Tinman’s effort in front of Dingley’s version of Bay 13, where he laid about 3 bumps and a smother, fired the home crowd up. The Dingoes turned for home 13 points up.
While coach Leeson continued to hand out praise at the last break, he demanded one more quarter of grit and effort to cap off an excellent day. The boys didn’t let him down. “The Cockroach” was given a secret mission down back and played a very disciplined last quarter, capped off with a couple of blistering runs. Josh had a great last quarter at full-forward, with a couple of telling possessions, Sam moved up forward and showed some real dash with a mark and play-on, Lachs continued to burst forward from the centre and Grant made the highlights package with a blind-turn on the grandstand-side flank. The boys continued to share the ball as the pressure mounted, with a couple of excellent passages of play, one involving Jake and Tom trading handballs and the other involving about 4 Dingoes through the centre corridor.
The final siren signalled a 14-point win, probably as good a game as we’ve played this year. To keep a very good side down to just 2 scoring shots was a fantastic effort from all of the 22 boys on the park. The boys are really playing as a team and with coach Leeson placing the boys more in the same positions, they are starting to learn when to man up and when to attack etc. There are still plenty of things to work on; our kicking skills, our midfield pushing back etc, but the boys continue to improve and make those early Sunday mornings worthwhile!!
YOU ROCK, DINGOES!!!!!!!!!
Goals – Liam (2), Lach Scott, Zane
Best Players – Ky, Lach Newman, Lach Scott, Jack F, James B, Sam
Dingley 9.9.63 d St Kilda City 1.2.8
After a week off in honour of our Commonwealth matriarch, the young Dingoes were up early on the 14th to travel down to Elwood Park and take on the middle-of-the-table St Kilda City. Captains for the day were the birthday boy, Tom “GPS” Morecroft and the ever- reliable Zane. Coach Leeson had spent the last 2 weeks with his fingernails penetrating his cranium as he searched for the secret first-quarter formula to fire up his troops from the first bounce. Stat’s revealed that we had won our first quarters by about 15 goals to 12 over the year, compared with our last quarters of 28 goals to 4. The answer was to be a man-on-man, ferocious attack on the ball, mixed with a small dose of incentive (ask the boys about the lap-running coach!).
The approach certainly worked, the boys were switched on from the first bounce and attacked for the whole quarter. Grant started superbly on his wing and really played his position well, forming the wall and driving us repeatedly into attack. Ky & Tanner were hard at it in the centre, winning the clearances and Tom was a real focal point at CHF. Lach Scott and Bailey were in everything on the flanks, Lach kicking 2 for the quarter, while the Tinman’s smother, pick-up and goal set the scene early. Josh also gets a mention for his gutsy attempt at a mark running back with the flight of the ball; the young Dingoes were on fire. 5 goals 6 to nil at the first break.
The St Kilda City boys hit back well after quarter time and the rest of the game was a real arm-wrestle. Liam started the second quarter well in the ruck, knocking the ball forward and charging it down himself. Riley was doing exactly as he was asked in the pocket, playing deep and creating space and was unlucky not to score a goal. Grant & Tom combined for a great passage of play, Grant squaring the ball to the top of the square, the GPS taking a strong overhead mark and kicking the goal. Clancy went on a crowd-pleasing run, backed it up with a great shepherd, James Matic had a kamikaze attack on the ball on the near-side wing and Lachie Newman was desperate at CHB, with a number of fierce attacks on the ball and bone-crunching bumps. Zane, Adam and James Mc were involved in some precision play through the centre with a couple of handballs and a pinpoint pass but we couldn’t muster the momentum of the first and we went in to the main break up by 45 points.
The third started with a centre clearance and bustling run from “the front-end loader” in Mitchell and some great dash from Jack K off his HBF. James Mc showed some fancy footwork down back, dodging and weaving while James Matic took another courageous chest mark. Jumping Jack Farrington had an excellent quarter at Full Back, turning the Saints back repeatedly. Sam also had a good quarter, at one stage rising high in the air, clutching the ball to his chest and charging off down-field. Jake came to grips with his role on the wing with some disciplined efforts, staying out of the 50-metre arcs and providing some rebound and link-ups. The Dingoes were 50 points up at the last break.
Lachie Scott had a fantastic last quarter, coming off a nasty fight with the perimeter fence and really showing his class, setting us up on two separate occasions with handballs out in front of a running team-mate. Jack K had his first stint at full-back and proved a real natural, knowing when to man-up and when to drop back in the square. Cody was back to his ball-stealing best, while Jumpin’ Jack and Adam both took a number of good marks across half-forward. Josh was rewarded for playing deep in his pocket with his first goal, late in the game. Well done Josh!
It was an interesting game. After an awesome first quarter, our discipline dropped off and a number of guys constantly wandered out of position. Our attack on the ball and pressure on the opposition ball-carrier was fantastic, but we still need to work on keeping our positions and not clogging up the corridor and the forward line. That’s our challenge over the next few weeks. Keep it up young Dingoes and keep listening and learning!!
GO DINGOES!!!!!!!!!

Dingley 7.10.52 drew with Mordi-Brae 8.4.52
Friday night football came to the Dingoes’ den on the 29th for the much awaited, heavyweight clash between the might of the Dingoes and the previously undefeated Mordi-Brae. Skippers for the night were Sam and Adam after excellent performances over the last couple of weeks, while the man o’tin was a late withdrawal due to illness.
The start was stuff of nightmares; 33 points down at the first change and we would have struggled to rack up 10 clear possessions. Ky hobbled off with a knee half way through and at the same time, James Burren copped a heavy knock to the mouth. Mitchell was doing his best to hold them out at full-back, playing his position well, Sam was trying to lead by example with fierce shepherds and Zane was fighting hard at CHB. At the break, coach Leeson pleaded for the boys to get hands on the ball first and stop the bleeding in the second quarter.
It was a much-improved performance in the second quarter and although both teams only managed one goal each, we had stemmed the tide. There were many more highlights. Cody managed a number of clearances and kicked an inspiring goal, Zane was “ripping and running” at CHB, Adam and Lach Scott were tough over the ball, Riley was very clever on his wing, Clancy laid a couple of shepherds and both Kamper boys were repelling everything that came their way across half-back.
We turned the corner in the third and started to pile on the pressure. Liam was getting his hands on it in the ruck, Zane & Cody were winning plenty of the ball in the guts and “the gps” in Tom was creating havoc up forward. Bailey was involved in a couple of excellent passages of play, while James Matic was rewarded for his recent good form, kicking his first goal for the team. Well done James! Lachie Newman assumed the hard-nut role and played a great quarter at CHB; he and Riley involved in a lovely piece of ball-sharing on the cage-side wing.
We were 16 points down at the last break, had the momentum and were looking for a big last quarter. James Burren provided the inspiration, casting aside the gashed gob, assuming his spot on a flank and providing plenty of his trademark dash. The Dingoes were fierce in the last stanza, continually surging forward and threatening the goal line. Grant shot out an excellent handball to Adam and Lachie Scott started a chain of handballs with a great “give and shepherd”, just as we’ve been working on in recent weeks. The midfielders were winning the clearances, the wings in Lach Sinclair & Grant had formed a wall and full-forward line of “jumpin’” Jack, Josh & Cameron were desperate to keep the ball up forward. Scores were tied with about 2 minutes left on the clock and we continued to surge forward, but just couldn’t score that last point!! We kicked 2.4 for the quarter but had unlimited opportunities. With a little more poise, talk and teamwork, th is could well have been more.
It was an unbelievable game and the courageous comeback effort from these mighty young Dingoes was awesome. Those in attendance were still talking about the game at the A Grade match on Saturday, shaking their heads and smiling as they recalled their own favourite moments of the game. The amount of contributors we get every week is the most pleasing aspect; it’s not 2 or 3 guys that dominate; which is the hallmark of the other top teams, it’s everyone contributing.
There were still some lessons to learn; we still had too many players around the ball-ups in the forward line. We do need to learn to assess the situation, back-out and find some space once there’s 4 or 5 Dingoes in the pack. There were also a number of ball-ups across half-back, where all of our players (apart from Mitch at FB) got “sucked in to the contest”, leaving the opposition an open forward 50 to attack. They then had 1 or 2 drop forward of the contest, won the clearance and scored easy goals.
Our poor first quarters have now assumed epic proportions. We’ve conceded 8 goals in Q1 over the past 2 weeks and Coach Leeson is looking for remedies; a 10 minute scratch match before the start or some loud head-banging rock (a la “The Purists”) are a couple of ideas being thrown around.
Well done fellas; that tenacious fight-back was fantastic to witness. Let’s save the spectators’ hearts in future weeks and start that tenacity from the first bounce!
GO DINGOES!!!!!!!!!
Goals –Tom (3), Cody (2), James Matic, Adam
Best Players – Riley, Clancy, Zane, Tom, Lach Newman, James Burren
Dingley 10.10.70 d Cheltenham 3.2.20
After an all-conquering 4 weeks, the young Dingoes made the short-trip to LePage to take on the Panthers. There was a bit extra in this game for our new boom recruit in Tom “GPS” Morecroft as this was his old team and Coach Leeson added to the occasion by keeping the Tom-tom on the bench in the first. The hard-running James Burren and ferocious Cameron Butts were rewarded for their efforts over the last couple of weeks, with captaincy for this all-important clash.
Astute observers did pick that the boys were a little “cocky” before the first bounce and after consecutive 100 point wins, some thought that it was their right just to turn up and they would win. The first 12 minutes however, made them focus and tune in to the quarter-time address. We allowed the Panthers to be first to the ball and a number of our defenders were off chasing seagulls and kicks, rather than keeping their minds on the job. The Kamper boys started well however, with Jack delivering a couple of fantastic shepherds and Sam posting his entry for goal of the year, with an “over-the –head” snap from the top of the square. James Matic also made the highlights package with a soaring Jonathon Brown-like chest mark in the middle of a pack. Lachie Newman and Zane could hold their heads high after typical, gutsy efforts in the first quarter but we were 12 points down at the first break.
Coach Leeson was about as animated as he gets at quarter time, imploring the boys to bear-down and return to the team game that had worked well in recent weeks. The Boys responded well, led by the rabid “in and under” brigade in Ky and Tanner, ripping the ball out of packs and hitting opposition bodies, hard. Lachie Sinclair worked hard up forward doing the team things, Jack K continued to drive us into attack and Mitch fought hard to keep the ball in the forward line, against 4 opponents on one occasion. Lachie Scott also started to stamp his class on the game and added a typical check-side goal. Scores were back level at the half.
The third quarter was very solid for the Dingoes, adding 2.5 to nil. With the twin-towers of Tom and Zane across half back, the full back line were reduced to spectators for the quarter, while Ky continued to win the hard-ball in the centre. Bailey played the forward flank brilliantly during the third, staying out wide and racking up the possessions. We also saw a sensational passage of team-play down the grandstand side, where the Kamper twins shared the ball, shepherded each other and delivered lace-out to Bailey, over to Lachie Scott who unselfishly popped it over the top for Cody to run into goal. Inspirational stuff!!! Adam had an excellent quarter up forward, taking a couple of strong marks and delivering a lovely left-hand handball. 17 points up at the last break and we had momentum going into the last.
We turned for home and poured another 5 goals on in the last. Grant was tough off his HBF, keeping his nose over the ball, “the terrier” in Clancy produced a couple of heavy shepherds and Lachie Newman relished his maiden voyage in the ruck. This was, however, the quarter in which one young Bailey Patterson arrived, kicking 3 goals from his flank with great poise and balance. Mitch turned on the after-burners for a blistering run and long kick, Zane added one, while Liam kept his spot as the leagues’s top goal-scorer by chalking up one in the last.
Overall, it was an excellent effort by the young Dingoes after an indifferent first quarter, where they forgot about the basic things that had served them well in recent weeks. They were much more team oriented in the last 3 quarters and reaped the dividends. With some tough games ahead, this was a good lesson to learn. Great stuff boys, keep it up!

Dingley 16.16.112 d East Brighton 0.1.1
We presented ourselves at the home of the Dingoes on the17th for what we thought would be a tougher encounter than the last couple of weeks. The vampires of East Brighton were sure to challenge the Dingoes on this occasion. It was not to be the case, Leeson’s lads again dominated, chalking up the Dingoes’ second 100 point demolition in succession.
Captains for the day were jumpin’ Jack Farrington and the “will o’ the wisp” Lachie Sinclair. We kicked to the Southern end in the first and after a slowish start, scoreless for the first few minutes, we eased into gear. The ever-reliable Zane started us off with the first goal, Liam was driving us forward off his wing and Adam executed a sensational handball to the poised Tom who nonchalantly posted our second. James Matic took a strong grab, Lachie Scott followed up his b.o.g last week by dominating up-forward, James Mc was zipping around the square and Tom submitted his entry for mark of the year with a strong overhead mark. 22 points up at the first break.
Ky was playing a ripper and started off the 2nd quarter with a number of blistering runs. Cameron typified the Dingo spirit in the goal square; on his hands and knees, with two vampires riding him like Cup-winning jockeys, Cameron ripped the ball out of opposition hands, dished out a sensational, goal-inducing handball to Lachs, only to be pinged for a throw. Bad luck Cameron, but the effort and determination in that passage were awesome. Lachie Sinclair challenged Tom for mark of the year with a soaring, Wayne Carey like, chest mark and backed it up with his first goal in the next passage of play.
Ky continued on his way in the third, while the shepherd count rose to an all-time high with Bailey, Riley, Grant & Ky all having multiple shepherds in this quarter. Sam capped of an excellent quarter by aggressively charging forward and kicking his first goal. We went in to the third break 76 points up but Coach Leeson wasn’t happy with the conversion rate (10.16).
The boys responded, kicking 6 straight in the last. Zane set the example with a handball over the top in the goal-square early on and the boys followed suit. James Burren finished strongly, as usual, and kicked his second for the day while Jack Kamper enjoyed his time up forward in the last quarter, with some bustling runs down the outer flank
Another great game fellas; some really good signs re attack on the ball, running forward in packs and sharing with team-mates in general play. Still a bit to work on re sharing in the forward line, which will become more important against the stronger teams, but the team is growing in confidence and fun to watch!
GO DINGOES!!!!!!!!!

Dingley 16.13.109 d South Melbourne 0.0.0
After very early delivery of breakfast in bed on the morning of the 10th, we journeyed down to Albert Park to take on the South Melbourne boys. Skippers for the day were James McLaren and Mitchell, while the lads were quietly confident after a couple of strong victories over the last 2 rounds. We started off into the breeze but piled on 4 first quarter goals with Zane dominating in the ruck and helping himself to two lovely long goals of his own. In front of his grandparents, Lachie Scott also opened up in grand style kicking us forward repeatedly off his wing and backing up a couple of handballs with strong shepherds. James Burren attacked the ball strongly and charged straight ahead off his HBF, James McLaren delivered a fantastic shepherd and Bailey and Clancy combined for a classy, running passage of play though the southern-side wing.
We wacked on another 3 in the second, with Grant driving us forward repeatedly out of the centre and Adam providing a real focal point at full-forward. Mitchell and Ky combined well in Mitch’s first go in the ruck while Tom continued to marshall the forward line.
Back up into the breeze in the third and we kicked another 4. Lachie Newman showed some of his tenacious form from last week with some in and under ball-winning while Bailey put in his entry for goal-of-the-year with a twisting, turning, baulking run followed by a long drop punt. Tanner delivered a couple of heavy bumps, leaving a coupled of winged swans in his wake while Sam had a great quarter in the middle, dishing out a couple of ripper handballs and shepherds. Zane finished off his 2nd quarter at CHB by repelling everything that crossed the centre line and Riley fought hard in the ruck.
The last quarter saw the Dingoes pile on 5 more and finish with over 100 points for the first time. Cameron showed great desperation on his flank, ripping the ball out of a pack on a couple of occasions and getting a handball out, Jack K had an excellent quarter on the ball, in hard at the bottom of the packs and running hard right through to the final siren. Lachie Scott won a heap more clearances, while Liam and Adam finished up with another couple of goals.
It was great to see the boys put into practice what they had learnt during the week; backing up a handball with a shepherd to create space for a team-mate. This happened on numerous occasions, but none did it better than Lachie Scott who really used his footy-brain to set others up.
It was also fantastic that “jumpin” Jack Farrington, James McLaren and Riley were all rewarded for their good work and kicked their first goals; great stuff fellas.

Dingley 11.8.74 d Ajax 1.1.7
We fronted Ajax at the Dingoes’ Den on Sunday the 3rd, not ever having tasted victory on our home turf in a season and a half. Skippers for the day were Liam and Tanner. The Dingoes started ferociously, with Lachie Newman leading the way in his roving role; winning the hard-ball and driving us forward repeatedly. Skipper Liam, was playing the attacking ruckman role, kicking the first, quickly followed by a couple more from Tanner and Tom. We were three goals up at the first break. Other highlights were a 2 bounce run and lace out pass from the terrier in Clancy, Jack K’s tenacious work at the centre clearances, great teamwork from Mitchell up forward with a couple of releasing handballs and a great start from the first-gamer in Bailey who picked up a number of possessions in the middle. Ky had a sensational quarter at CHB, repelling many Ajax forward forays with his courageous straight-ahead attacks on the ball.
Coach Leeson asked for another 3 goals in the second quarter and the boys delivered, with Liam bagging a couple more and Jake joining in on the act. Tom continued to be in everything at CHF, James Matic was a real livewire up-forward, delivering a ripper bump in front of the home crowd while Lachie N and Tanner continued to set the standard with their hard-ball gets. Six up at half-time.
We carried on the attacking play in the third, with Cody laying a couple of fantastic shepherds and Jack K ripping the ball from the oppositions’ hands. There was a great passage of play that Josh started with a break-away and handball, finishing up in a long drop-punt goal from Adam. Cody also kicked one for the quarter and we were 46 points up at the last break.
We kicked another 3 in the last through Tom, Liam and Lach Scott , who shrugged off his dodgy ankle and played a strong last quarter on the ball. The boys continued their strong desire for the ball with Jack F beating off 2 opponents and rebounding from his back-pocket, a great grab from James Matic, a long run and huge kick forward from Sam, an inspirational smother from Grant and great work from James B from his back flank, playing in front and also laying a couple of shepherds.
The only disappointment of the day was a warm-up ankle injury to the will-o-the-wisp Lachie Sinclair, but I’m sure he’ll be up for next week. It was an excellent effort from the boys, with the amount of run growing each week, running forward in packs and the hard-ball gets way up there. Our hardness at the ball over the last couple of weeks has set a high standard, but I’m sure we can keep re-setting the bar here. The couple of things to work on are the tendency to blaze forward without looking for a team-mate and the number of times we missed opportunities to shepherd. Great work young Dingoes, keep it up!

Dingley 10.11.71 d Murrumbeena 3.2.20
We ventured down to Murrumbeena for round 2 of the 2009 season where we took on the gold variety of the Beena under 9’s. Our gun forward in Lachie Scott was out with an ankle, but turned up to provide some moral support; great stuff Lachs! Captains for the day were James Matic and Grant, who set the tone by winning the toss and kicking with the aid of a strong breeze.
Coach Leeson started with “the Blythe Ct mob” in the centre and they set us on our way early. Tom was instrumental in many forward attacks with his ability to read the play and his excellent passing, while Tanner was ferocious in winning the ball in the scrimmages. The forwards started strongly; Ky was marshalling the forward line, “the terrier” in Clancy took 2 great marks and kicked a goal and Mitchell was his usual belligerent self in the middle. We had heaps of the ball but missed a few opportunities, quarter time score 3.6 to nil.
The second quarter, into the breeze, was even better. We kicked 2.2 to nothing. Co-Captain James played the back-pocket like a veteran, dropping back into the square when required; Cameron came into the centre and fought hard at the centre bounces and James Burren provided plenty of run and drive from his wing. Zane had the ball on a string up forward and kicked the first of his 4 goals for the day.
We continued on our way with the aid of the breeze in the third quarter. Lachie Newman found a real niche on the HBF, attacking the ball hard and driving us into attack, while Zane continued to wreak havoc in attack, giving out a couple of ripper handballs. Highlight for the quarter was Jake’s unorthodox goal, with an almost goose-step, baulk around the man on the mark and true snap. 8.10 to 0.1 at 3 qtr time.
The Beena boys bounced back in the last as the wind blew up, kicking 3 goals, but we still managed 2 into the breeze. Highlight was a passage of play by co-captain Grant, who followed up a side-step and classy pass, with a gutsy smother about 30 seconds later. Both Kamper lads had good last quarters with Jack winning some hard balls on the last line of defence and Sam still running strongly at the final siren.
Coach Leeson praised the boys after the game, highlighting the hard attacks on the ball, some unselfish forward-line play and the disciplined back-line in keeping their positions. Everyone played a part in the win, a real team effort.

We started our season with an away game vs. East Sandringham at Brighton Beach oval.
Captains for the day were Sam and Josh who were excited leading the team for the first time.
The game didn’t start in the way we wanted with the opposition getting the ball out of the middle quickly and kicked a couple of early goals.
The Dingoes were running a clear second in the opening quarter. The backline weren’t giving up easily and were fighting hard to get the ball, Tanner and Sam were ferocious in the packs getting the ball.
At quarter time we were trailing 3.1.19 to 0.
After a regroup at quarter time the boys were committed to being first to the ball and applying pressure to the opposition.
Young Tom playing his first game for the Dingoes, was leading by example at CHB clearing the ball out of the back line.
It was a hard fought second quarter; we worked hard for our first goal of the season kicked by a dashing Liam.
The scores at half time we were trailing 5.1.31 to 1.0.6.
Some of the midfielders were getting tired so Kevin made a few rotations to get some fresh legs running in the midfield.
All the players were in hard at the ball in the 3rd quarter, some impressive team work and they were awarded with a great pass by Lachlan N to Cody who strolled in and kicked our second goal. Mitchell was rebounding the ball from the backline straight back to the forwards.
Young James B was injured in the third quarter, being carried off by Kevin and Damien our trainer who had a busy start to the season.
Going into the last quarter we were trailing 6.4.40 to 2.0.12.
The forwards stood tall in the last quarter, the ball was continuously in the forward line and this paid off as Liam and Cody both scored goals, but the team may need some more goal kicking practice as we also kicked 5 points. Young James Mc was sitting at forward pocket and had a few touches and it won’t be long before he kicks his first goal.
The final score were 7.4.46 to Dingley 4.5.29 – the pleasing things were the boys did not give up and out scored the opposition from quarter time.
