BAGGY GREEN ONE RUN-UP CLOSER FOR JON?By Ziggy Arness

Jon Holland - No 1 Ticket Holder

The certainty that our No.1 ticket holder was destined for higher honours came to fruition last week when Jon Holland was selected in the "Australia A" squad for an upcoming series of matches against Pakistan in Queensland in June and July.

That such an elevation was on the cards for our Victorian left-arm tweaker had been given credence when he was mentioned recently by no less an authority than Allan Border as a possible smokey for the Ashes tour.

"Dutchy" , at 21, is the youngest player in a squad named to play in two four-dayers in Townsville, followed by three limited-overs and one Twenty20 in Brisbane.

The main selection criteria were youth, good performances in the past domestic season and "a concentration on those players we have identified as having the ability to play a significant role in the future of Australian cricket" , chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said.

Jon's chances of getting amongst the action have probably been enhanced by the fact that his state captain Cameron White, who knows Jon's game well, has been given the captaincy role for the series.

Now I wonder if he can wear his Dingoes shirt and cap at training?
