You can imagine the delighted reaction of the Football Club when Russell Capp, a Life Member with a long and valued involvement, approached them to purchase memberships for his daughter and son-in-law.
Kerryn and Rupert live in-of all places-Chicago!(Zip Code 60601,for those of you who thought I wouldn't know it). Those Dingo shirts are now being proudly paraded (and no doubt causing some raised eyebrows) in a city that has more than it's share of home grown iconic sporting teams such as the Chicago Bulls, White Sox, Bears and Cubs to name a few.
Fortunately Russell had the money-saving acumen to only buy home-game memberships, as the extra travel would make attending away fixtures almost impossible!
Most of us around the club would know Russ, he not only attends senior games but he's also the gentleman you'll see in the outer almost every Sunday morning taking in a few junior matches as well.
That's what brought him to the club way back in 1969, taking his sons down to play juniors. Subsequently Derek played in the 83 Reserves flag and Kenny became one of the select few to be part of the 94 Senior premiership.
Russell himself went on to serve as Vice-president of the DFC for 7 years, also taking on one year as Secretary.
It's pleasing that he's passed on this passion to family so far away. They follow the fortunes of the Dingoes through regular visits to this website, as it's rare for SFL results to make it to the back pages of the Chicago Tribune!
Kerryn Capp met Welshman Rupert in Zurich in 1994, and they tied the knot in London 4 years ago. Rupert's job as a corporate lawyer took them to Illinois in December 2008, where they follow the Chicago Cubs baseball side. Rupert is also an avid Arsenal fan, whilst Kerryn regularly watches the AFL Swans on the internet.
She's no sporting slouch herself either, having won an Australian title with the Victorian U19 netball side in 1984, and her more recent exploits include participation in both the New York and Berlin Marathons, as well as running in a number of half-marathons. Perhaps the club will have an opening for a fitness advisor sometime in the future?
