Seniors: On a blustery warm day we travelled down to East Brighton for what we hoped would be a win for the boys. With a tight first quarter we would have been disappointed kicking with the wind to be all tied up, however leading at half time showed that kicking with the wind doesn’t always mean it is the scoring end.
Kicking 3 goals 6 in the third it showed that accurate kicking can be vital and we were only 3 goals up at the final break however kicking 3 goals into the wind sealed it for the boys ending up with a 16 point victory.
Jack Clausen was superb kicking 3 goals in a BOG performance, well supported by Turks, Brooks, Vinen & Fordy who kicked 2. Congrats to Greeny & Leigh Moore on playing in the first. Great game by both players.
Reserves: Playing against the bottom team we always confident going into this game. Kicking into the wind for the first quarter we could have really got the jump however 1.7 is never going to give you a huge lead, but with a bit straighter kicking we went in to half time 33 points up.
Keeping our foots on the accelerator in the 3rd we kicked away further leading at the last change by 45 points. In the last it was a kicking fest with the boys kicking 4 goals 8 lead by Poppa who kicked 4 goals 6 for the day. Sess showed the old dog still has some tricks with a BOG game, well supported by Mary, Andy Park & Col Craney who all combined well to give us a 70 point win.
Colts: The Colts fresh from a week off host Chelsea Heights today in the final game before they embark on a well deserved finals campaign. Congratulations to Leigh Moore and Andrew Green who both played their first games in our senior team, both playing excellent games. Finally a big thank you to Quinny and the whole Senior playing group who have supported the Colts team right throughout the year.
Seniors: Travelling to the Peanut Farm was always going to be a tough task and with some late changes to the side this was going to be even tougher. With no Wizard, Mainy & Vinen against the top side the boys had to really step up.
From the start it was a hard contest with sheer size of the City boys hurting our smaller bodies. Kicking our first score in the second quarter we were 12 goals down at half time.
Across all facets City were just too strong for us, but at least we were able to keep the scoreboard registering a few scores for us, albeit behinds. Once again a few straighter kicks and the scoreboard would have looked a bit better.
The bigger bodies of Brooksy & Pitty were best for us, well supported by Turks, Rowy & Dazza Andrews.
Special mention to Costy & Brett Smith for their first senior games. Well done fellas!
Reserves: With the return of the captain spud we travelled to St Kilda for a chance to stamp our spot in the 2009 finals
The pre game meeting was put on hold until all players were there. Story is that a few were seen standing in line at Luna Park waiting to go for a ride on the roller-coaster or they just got plain lost.
The start of the game started off very hard and fast and the skills were at senior standard resulted in scores all tied at quarter time. St Kilda got the jump on us early in the second kicking 3 goals 6 to our 1 point and at the long break 23 points down our finals chance was slipping.
The 3rd quarter was a different story it was all us, Jimmy, Poppa, Col and Spud got the ball out of the middle and down quick to the forwards Kev was having his best game of the year, getting the ball as well as showing some muscle.
Poppa went from missing a goal from about 1 foot to seconds later getting a smother and kicking from 50 post seeing it sail through at post height for his so call goal of the year.
11 shots at goal for only 3 majors we kept them in the game at the final change. With 4 points in it, the last quarter was going to be great with Sess and Patty doing a great job at tagging their bloke and keeping them out of the game we knew we had a great chance to bring home the 4 points. It went goal for goal for most the quarter with only 1 minutes to go, in stepped Brett Smith taking a mark 40 out and on a tight angle he kick truly and we were 2 points up. With the siren about to go the boys in the middle just had to jump on the ball and the game was ours.
Thanks to Danny A for helping out again and hopefully he come out of retirement and come back next year.
A special mention to The Fridge who had a knee reco last week, we hope to see him back at the club soon.
Colts: The Colts travelled to the Peanut Farm to take on the undefeated St Kilda City. As they did in the game earlier in the season, they jumped us and had a sizeable lead at half time.
To our credit we came out and took it right up to them in the third quarter and played some good footy but after a disappointing first half it was just to much to make up and we finally went down by 43 points.
There were some positives to come out of a game like this, the continued excellent form of Mat Ravenall, the hard working Mat Wilcox and just the fact we can mix it with these top teams all be it for periods that are greater than just a few quarters.
The bye has probably come at just the right time as a few of our wounded can now have a breather and really look forward to the coming games.
Seniors: The second last home game for the year was looking like being a cracker up against our old rivals Springy Districts. Once again the wind was going to play a big factor in this game, and leading 6.3 to zip at quarter time was certainly what we wanted to see. Continuing the pressure into the first half with us still winning the quarter, leading by 45 points was the lead that we were looking for. It was very positive to see that we didn’t take our foot off in the second half, kicking away especially in the final stanza, pilling on 11 goals. Our most accurate kicking for the year certainly helped the scoreboard. Fordy dominated kicking 8, backed up with Tony kicking 4 including a couple of gems in the last sealing his BOG performance. Based on his form of late he could be right up there come BF time. Top games by Vinen, Adsey, Turks & Frosty.
Reserves: With us sitting 2 games clear of the Demons, confidence would have been high going into this game, however Springy got the jump on us in the first half, leading by 3 goals at the main change. With us needing to come out firing in the second half, the boys would have been read the riot act at half time, however it didn’t appear to work, especially in the last quarter with Springy kicking away to a 8 goal win. Still there were some good games by Col Craney, Poppa gets a mention again this week for a solid game after getting propped back & Danny Atkin was BOG in his (hopefully) comeback game. Good highlight was Wallis giving the don’t argue to a player then turning around and realising it was Gaz Morgan…………
Colts: The Colts travelled to Skye for the second versus third game and after a draw earlier in the season, it lived up to all expectations. In what proved to be a showcase of this great Colts competition and after a very tight first half, Dingley ran out winners by 19 points. This was a real team effort with Mat Wilcox (7 goals), Phil Ball and Josh Pickford giving us an avenue up forward and Mat Ravenall giving us continued drive from half back. Throw in Leigh Moore, Dan Morris and Michael Bruce across the middle and we were good enough to come away with our first win against a team above us. This week we look at taking on the undefeated ladder leader in yet another challenge we must tackle if we are to accept the ultimate prize.
Seniors: Travelling down to Jack Baker Oval this reporter felt there was going to be another game decided by who took advantage of the strong winds, for the 4th week in a row. The opening minutes were not what we wanted with stalwart Brett Gneil hitting the deck in extreme pain. Seeing him yesterday he seemed in good shape, so look after yourself mate.
5 points down at the first break wasn’t too bad, and still in check at half time, 3 goals down. Utilizing the strong breeze in the 3rd was going to be the priority but we didn’t quite hit our straps, only managing 1.3 to Chelt’s 1.5. It was still in our grasp and the message from Quinny was win the quarter. The boys certainly gave it their all managing 2.3 to the Rosellas 1.1 but one must feel that the end result of 17 points was only saved by their inaccurate kicking of 9.19.
Top games by Wonnacott & Tony played solid again, with Mainy holding his own in the middle. 2 a piece to the young boys Mullo & amp; Fordy. Special mention to Poppa, giving me a challenge to mention him every week now, along with his twin playing for Chelt, standing next to each other, it was hard to tell them apart, the boots were the only give away. The boy’s confidence should be high going into this week against the rivals of Springy Districts. Top games
Reserves: This was always going to be a game that would tell us where we were sitting going into the business end of the season. Starting off with the wind, we would’ve had a handy lead if it wasn’t for some sloppy kicking, and we were still in touch at half time, only 7 points down. Same goes for the 3rd quarter, kicking 3.6 with Chelt only kicking 2.1 but enough to trail only slightly. The last quarter they were able to capitalize on this wind running away with a 17 point victory. There were still some positives to take out of the game, with Costy showing his confidence has soared in recent weeks, with a BOG performance on and off the field, and was well supported by Sess & Bretty Smith who is having a very solid year.
Colts: The Colts played away to Cheltenham and after a tough 3 quarters when only a couple of goals separated the two teams at the final change, we managed to show everyone the football we are capable of and ran out winners by 11 goals. The game was a team effort with Adam Hickford, Andrew Bruce, Jackson Obrien and Phil Ball doing the damage up forward and Zlatan, Andrew Green and Steve Comino playing very strong games in the mid field. Ryan Gordon and the ever reliable Chris Baxter and Matt Ravenall were terrific in defense. We now set ourselves for our first "Qualifying Final" against Skye in what promises to be our biggest game of our season.
Seniors: It was a day for a few players to step up with Quinny giving them all a good rev up pre game. Kicking with the wind in the opening quarter we needed to get a good lead on St Pauls and inaccurate kicking in the blustery conditions was the only thing stopping us from being 5 goals clear at the first break. The Doggies showed us this by kicking straighter in the second quarter going into the main break 15 points up. The start of the 3rd we really needed to hit them hard however nobody told St Pauls that with them winning the quarter kicking into the breeze. The last quarter they finished what they intended to do today kicking away and sealing the win by 46 points. All was not lost however with Frosty and Turcs playing their best in a while, Rowy continued his good form and Co-Captain Tony had a BOG performance. It’s amazing what happens when the missus is back and he is more ‘focused’.
Reserves: With a chance to sneak up to 3rd on the ladder today it was going to be a hotly contested game however it didn’t pan out that way with the Doggies catching the Dingoes off guard in the first half with us only scoring 1.4 to their 5.8. With them kicking with the breeze in the 3rd quarter they kicked away seemingly putting victory out of reach for us. Trailing by 12 goals at the last change the boys showed something kicking goals for the quarter. Good to see Poppa getting a mention this week for a good game along with Sess Brett Smith playing well along with Dancer & Lincoln Bond.
Colts: The Colts took on fourth placed St Pauls in tough low scoring encounter and in a disappointing game went down by 4 points. However with 5 of the best players on the ground being opposition players the final score didn't really tell the full story. We were clearly beaten by a team that were prepared to run, take risks and go in hard, all the things we do against weaker opposition. The positive is that we now know what is required and with players to come back, and with every game from now on a mini final, we can all lift and really look forward to the weeks ahead. Better players although hard to find were Daniel Morris, Tom Cooper and Sam Williams.
Seniors: After coming off 3 losses on the trot, the boys were needing a win not only for the chance of keeping the season alive but to give them back some confidence going into the next few weeks.
On a very wintery Melbourne day we travelled down to Clayton to take on the winless Magpies. Kicking with the wind in the first quarter we were able to get a generous lead going and kept the 41 point lead going into the main break. Putting on another 6 goals 7 in the third it was evident that we had the game sown up, however we needed to finish strong.
The Magpies had the same plan, and kicked 5 goals to our 2, however it was a good win for the boys in testing conditions. Jack Clausen continues to impress, earning a BOG performance, and Bret Lavars was stiff not to get 3 in a row, continuing his stellar form of late. Brooksy was his best kicking 4 from the wing, along with Mainy who continues to get his job done without fuss. Highlight was Rowy Watson putting someone other than himself on their arse for once. Great physical stuff Rowy!
Reserves: Well once Col Craney finally got to the right ground, we were right to go with a full team against the struggling Clayton. The first quarter was a tight contest and inaccurate kicking from the Magpies had us with a slender lead at half time.
Coming into the second half we got the jump on them, kicking away, despite the points coming more than the goals. The final term was always going to be tough with the Magpies kicking with the wind however the boys held them off to score another victory. Some people will do anything to get a mention in the record with Poppa scoring a trip to hospital, but it’s probably the only way he’ll get a mention at the moment.
Great games by Marzy, Sess, Fridge & Gaz Morgs. Special mention to Costy for playing a good hard game on and off the field on Saturday.
Colts: The Colts had a home game at Clayton against an undermanned Highett team, played in very wintry conditions. Team football was the theme for the day and that was achieved with some great run on, free flowing footy, resulting in a big win.
Adam Hickford returning after a holiday was good all day, as were other mid fielders Michael Bruce and Andrew Green whose use of the ball was a highlight. Sixteen individual goalkickers was further evidence we had a terrific team effort.
However the real season starts now with all remaining games shaping the final five, and only time will tell how important having finals success means to the playing group and how far you are all prepared to commit to the end result.
Again we had yet another Colt promoted to our firsts and as was Mat Wilcox last week, Daniel Morris who has come through from our Under 9's was selected for his first senior game, which was great for Daniel and the Club.
Seniors: After last weeks defeat there was hope the playing group would come out this week all guns blazing. Under constantly changing skies, the Combine had different ideas however and got the jump on the Dingoes and leading by 2 goals at quarter time.
The shot in the arm was given and taken on board with the boys leading heading into the main break. The second half was a scrappy affair with both sides fighting hard for the win. In the end Tooronga-Malvern were too good getting up by 3 points, turning this side who many had us to beat into a bit of a bogey side.
Bret Lavars starred again securing his 2nd BOG in a row with plenty of support on the opposite wing by Brooksy and Vinen was solid up forward kicking 5 goals. This week against winless Clayton is a good opportunity to get together and get the confidence back up that this team needs to get the ball rolling again and have an outside chance at the 5.
Reserves: With our ruckman promoted to the firsts this week and Hanlon back working we were going to be stretched for tall’s this week. Enter former league B&F player The Gill Cat. Playing his first game for the year the bug man starred earning BOG for the day. Maybe the boots aren’t hung up for good after all???
It was a good hit out for the boys, with The Combine never really threatening the scoreboard. Dimma starred with 5, backed up by Kev Atkin & Andy Van Stav with 2 each. Top games by Nick Hall & Trent Bassetto showed an all round team effort.
Colts: The Colts travelled to Narre Warren Foxes for their first night game for many years. The set up there is first class the hot dogs after the game to all the players was much appreciated but who was that player who had four?
Conditions on the night made for a hard slog and although Narre jumped us early, we really stuck to our task and ran out winners by 48pts. It was probably our first 4 quarter effort with all players attacking the footy, our backline led by Chris Baxter, Jack Zeler and Mat Ravenall were terrific limiting Narre to just 10 pts. for the night.
All our mid fielders including Andrew Green and Ryan Gordon got plenty of it as did smaller players Andrew Bruce and Nick Grange who enjoyed the conditions. Up forward Josh Pickford, Phil Ball and Josh Ellis had solid games. Congratulations to Mat Wilcox for his first game in our ones.
Coming up 26th July 10k Draw & Player Auction, see Patto for details. August 8th (after St Kilda game) function at the club. We are finalising the details now however the date is locked in so you have NO EXCUSES!! This will be compulsory for all players. Bring a few mates/ladies along and have a great night.
Colts - Steve Connelly: We turned up at Narre to be confronted with an oval covered in pools of water and the subsequent showers during the match didn't make conditions easy. After conceding the first goal in the opening minutes we hit our straps and held the Foxes goal less for the rest of the game, eventually running out comforatble winners by 50 points.
Bally made an encouraging return from injury and bagged a couple as did Josh Pickford who had his best game of the season. Dan Morris, Greeny and Ryan Gordon were terrific in the mid field and the backline, led by Matt Ravenall and Baggers, who had a super game, set up a lot of our scoring opportunities. Baxter, Josh Ellis, repelled what got past half back and Jack Zeler who was great had relished the conditions.
Pleasingly everyone contributed with the forwards working hard to ensure the ball stayed alive in the scoring zone with Andrew Bruce and fellow forwards Dan McConville, Jacko, CD and Nick working hard in the heavy going. Our ruckmen Tom, Steve and Zlatan worked hard in dificult conditions for the talls.
Our runners Josh Mclaren, Drew and Sammy (before both copped knocks) provided good drive. Michael Bruce controlled his wing and with skipper Leigh Moore working back into form, the Dingoes proved too talented for the determined Foxes.
With a few handy inclusions coming back into the team over the next week or so we look forward to consolidating our position and building up for the run home.
Final Score - 8.10-58 def 1.4-10
Goal Kickers - Phil Ball 2, Leigh Moore 2, Josh Pickford 2,Daniel McConville 1, Zlatan Bojadzic 1.
Seniors - Rob Tennant: Travelling down to Kavanagh Reserve, the Dingoes would’ve been feeling confident after the first round trashing of Mordialloc, however with no less than 14 new faces since the 2 teams met in Round 1 it was going to be a completely different side that we were facing.
The half time scoreboard was comforting with very accurate kicking keeping us in front. Well all this reporter can say is 20 minutes is a long time in football and it was if 2 different sides took to the field in the second half with the Bloods putting on 9 goals to Dingley’s 3.
The final quarter was only slightly better but the damage was already done. Fordy going down in the opening minutes certainly hurt the side however a few players looked lethargic out on the ground, perhaps bringing into question the pre-game preparation by some. Bret Lavars was a stand out along with his brother, Jack Clausen continues to show that he has the goods and Mainy & Gnielsy kicked 3 each.
With some games that a few weeks ago would have looked like easy wins are now looking to be season defining matches with every single individual needing to step up and be counted. Remember that what you do effects the whole team and think what it may mean to have an night out with your mates or hitting the pillow early and be at your optimal level the next day.
Reserves - Jason Wallis: Saturday’s game was the first game of a big 3 weeks of football which will set up a top 3 spot we started off very slowly playing our worst first quarter of the year.
The skills weren’t up, missing targets, dropping marks and no run. Trailing going into the second quarter much of the same as the first. Spudda pulled all the players in and had a crack and told everyone to lift then it was the coach’s turn. He did not hold back telling the boys that if we want the top 3 spot we needed to do everything that we have been doing on the track on Tuesday, Thursday night.
The second half seen some changes with Hanlo going into the ruck The Fridge to full forward with a strong mark and goal from him and the ball started to be moved quick though the middle of the ground. Scores at three quarter time had the boys up by a point. The last quarter saw the Mullo and Park boys step up with there attack on the ball and the boys ran out with the victory by 7 points.
Colts - Rattles: Colts travelled down to Mordialloc to play an obviously undermanned team and ran out winners by 36 goals, playing some really good team football.
Matt Wilcox with 10 goals was a stand out. Others to show out were Andrew Green (5 goals), Chris Daniels(4 goals) ,Andrew Bruce (3 goals)and Josh Pickford also with 3 goals. Jack Zeler and Drew McLean also formed part of a backline that combined really well to keep the opposition scoreless.
Colts - Steve Connelly: One ordinary quarter and three pretty good quarters were enough to get the points against an undermanned opposition. After a tardy start where we only posted 4 goals in the opening quarter we hit our straps kicking 32 in the final 3.
While the win was good for our percentage and confidence we shouldn’t get carried away and realize that we need to work harder against the more quality teams, we should also recognize that although Mordialloc were well beaten by us they put in all day and were clearly a younger and less experienced team and will improve.
We had a number of highlights not the least being Matt Wilcox’s 10 goal haul, Dan Morris continued excellent vein of form and Andrew Green’s super performance including 5 goals. Chris Daniels returned to form with 4 goals and a good attack on the footy and Chris Baxter was excellent with his big (fair) bump being the type of physical attack on the contest we have been talking about. Josh Pickford was in good nick and was one of our best.
Special mention to Jackson O’Brien and Jack Zeler who were terrific contributors. We had multiple goalkickers and everyone got involved at various stages we now aim for the complete 4 quarter effort across the board starting this week against Narre North Foxes under lights.
Final Scores; 36.17-233 to Mordialloc 0 0 0
Goal Kickers: M. Wilcox 10, A. Green 5, C. Daniels 4, J. Pickford 3, A. Bruce 2, M. Ravenall 2, S. Comino 2, R. Gordon 2, D. McConville 2, S. Willams 2, J. Ellis, D. McLean
Seniors: Our first trip down to Beazley reserve was always going to be a tough assignment. Going into the first break 2 goals up was certainly the start we were after with the Dingoes attacking relentlessly.
The second quarter didn’t go as well with only 1 point being kicked and we headed into the main break only 4 points down. Starting off the third much in the same fashion as the first pilling on 5 goals in testing conditions, with the wind whipping down to one end of the ground.
An incredible goal from the pocket by Lukey Bartholomew shows how good this kid is. Going into the last quarter 16 points up there was a good feeling in the air. The game didn’t pan out that way however once again failing to score a goal at that end with Chelsea ending up winning by 2 goals.
The boys know how close the big wins are but just can’t close it out. Good to see Morgs back to his best this week well supported by Lukey Bart, Bret Lavars and Danny Atkin was the general down back as usual.
Reserves: Up against seconded place Chelsea Heights was going to be a good test as to where we stood in the division. With the first quarter allowing us to get a little lead, which was taken back from us by half time, but trailing by 5 points at half time was a good position to be in.
The second half didn’t quiet work out how we planned with Chelsea coming out and giving the goal umpires some work to do kicking 7.7 for the half to 2.4. Shows that there is a bit of a difference between the top 5 however the boys know they can match it against the best and the more we play against these higher rated opposition the better we will become.
Scotty Hanlon booted 2 majors and Brett Smith continued his stellar year with another BOG performance for us. He keeps on going from strength to strength this year. Paddy Edwards showed why he played senior footy with a solid performance along with Hanlon, Col & Marzy.
Colts: In a match that could shape our season (us in 3rd place against Murrumbeena in 4th), we got over the line after an 8 goal last quarter in the end we running out comfortable winners 17 9 111 to Murrumbeena 11 6 72.
There was nothing in the game all day and with only a couple of points in it a 3/4 time we had to rally against a determined opposition. Dan Morris continued his great season with another stand out effort and Ryan Gordon and Andrew Green were great in the middle getting good supply from our ruckmen Tom Cooper and Zlatan.
Matt Ravenall was super controlling across half back. Sam Williams again stepped up from the 17s and was important in the last quarter as was Harry who ended up with 3 goals including a contender for goal of the year on his left that started thr last quarter surge.
Most players contributed at various stages but we are yet to put together a full four quarter effort against good opposition, that being our next challenge along with shoring up a double chance and with a few players injured and a couple unavailable over the next couple of weeks that wont be an easy task unless we work hard on the track and put in for a full match.
Goals were spread over 10 players with Dan McConville kicking 2 first quarter goals into the wind which proved decisive in the final wash up, and Andrew Bruce, Jackson O’Brien, Skipper Leigh Moore and Bomber Wilcox also multiple goal scorers
Goal Kickers: A. Staude 3, L. Moore 2, A. Bruce 2, J. O''Brien 2, D. McConville 2, M. Wilcox 2, T. Cooper, J. Ellis, M. Ravenall, A. Green
This week Mordi away followed by a night game at Narre, we need to respect the opposition and work hard to gain some momentum heading towards the business end of the season.
Saturdays game against Skye clearly showed that unless we play for 4 quarters we will struggle to beat the better teams, in the end we scrambled to a draw but it could have been very different if we had of played with the same intensity we played with late in the game into the wind when we were kicking with it.
We will learn from this and continue to work on the areas we need to improve, fitness and winning the contested footy and a running physical game.
Although the result was disappointing there were positives to come out of the match, including the character required to claw our way back after dropping 2 goals behind late in the game.
The other positive was the return of our co captain Leigh Moore who immediately inspired his team with a terrific goal from the boundary in the first quarter. Zlatan was sensational in the ruck and we now have the bonus of a dual pronged ruck attack with Tom Cooper and Zlatan. Dan Morris returned to form, Harry was great in the heat of the last quarter and Matt Ravenall again shone in the key defensive post. Steve Comino was instrumental in our comeback in the last quarter and Adam was also in the thick of it when some leadership was needed. Michael and Baxter impressed again and Josh Pickford was dangerous at times as was Josh Ellis who ran the lines from defense.
Most players contributed at various stages of the game; again, we need consistency across the whole match from the entire team.
This was a match that we should have won, we must stop concerning ourselves with things out of our control and get on with it, decisions will go against us from time to time, we cop it and move on. We concentrate on the things we can control and forget the rest.
This week we have another tough match against Murrumbeena who sit directly below us on the ladder; if we win we move 6 points clear of them and shore up a top 3 place, lose and we are in danger of dropping out. Everyone needs to get to training twice, we need to work on the areas mentioned above and get back on the winners list.
Seniors: With the week off for most of our players allowing some of the bruised & battered bodies time to recover the Dingoes were always going to come out firing against East Brighton. The quarter time score however would not reflect this with East Brighton putting on 1 goal 5 points more.
Things kicked into gear in the second quarter with the boys slamming home 8 majors. And went into the main break 28 points clear. After fading in recent weeks in the final half the boys were determined not to have this happen again with a relentless attack on the ball. With the final quarter in sights it seemed like it was all stitched up however with the vampires kicking 4 goals 6 for the quarter to our 4 goals 1, one can’t help but think that if East Brighton had kicked straight we may have been in a different situation with them having 3 more scoring shots but going down by 47 points…..
Captain Tony Lavars starred with a BOG performance showing he has hit his straps for the year and Fordy end ing up with 7 cementing his place in the forward line. Bret & Brooksy held up their wings and good to see Jack Clausen getting a lot of the ball at his new club.
Reserves: Going into the game without knowing what to expect was always going to be a tough ask however the boys handled it better than anyone could ask slamming home the scores as if Scotty had promised them a beer per goal.
Going into the break 12.12 to zip the 2’s could have taken on the second half a tad half baked but they didn’t by burying the opposition to a 24.23 167 to 1 goal thumping. A few lessons in kicking straight may not go astray in the coming weeks. J Wallis continued his great form with a best on performance supported by 13 individual goal kickers with Dimma leading them with 5. Former coach Sess had his best hit out for the year and showed there is still some life in the old fella……
Colts: Dingley Colts hosted Skye in a second vs third game and this proved to be a finals like encounter. Nothing much separated the two teams all day and the result of a draw was probably a fitting one. New player Zlatan in only his second game was terrific with his strong hit outs and general play around the ground, as was the ever reliable Daniel Morris who gave us much needed run. Great to see Leigh Moore get through a game without mishap and will only get better as will the whole team who will now appreciate the extra effort and commitment needed to match it with the top teams, maybe even an early friday night may come in handy.
This week we travel down to Chelsea Heights for the last of the unknown opposition. Remember to support the club & bar and set the example for your fellow supporters. Hopefully the ladies enjoyed a fantastic Ladies Day last week and have shaken off the hangover to come on down to support the Dingoes in what should be a tough match. Many thanks to Julie, Emma and all the ladies that helped out on the day.
The season is in full swing and anybody who remotely doubted the well being of football in the Dingley community would only have to visit Souter oval on any given weekend.
Friday nights juniors under lights, 280 Auskick kids kicking the dew off the grass at 8am Saturday, followed by Colts, Reserves and Seniors taking the entertainment right through till 5 o’ clock. Then a full roster of matches every Sunday, with games spilling over to Ross St Reserve in Heatherton because the Dingley ground can’t accommodate all of our 14 junior teams.
On the playing front, at the time of writing the Colts are on top of the ladder, and both reserves and seniors are still in which a realistic chance of playing finals, which (if it happens) would probably exceed our pre-season expectations.
The 50 years celebrations are well under way, and our membership drive has resulted in the number being almost trebled since last season, including 2 from Chicago! No wonder the till is ticking over at the Sports Club!
On the subject of ticket-holders, No.1 for this year was presented a few weeks ago to Jon Holland, Victorian cricketer (with higher aspirations), who played both his junior footy and cricket here.
A slightly less hectic month ahead with the interruption provided by the QB long weekend. A home game against East Brighton on the 13th followed by “almost local” assignments at Chelsea Heights and Mordialloc.
Those of you who haven’t had a look already, please join us and revisit what local football is all about.
Seniors: It was always going to be a big test for the Dingoes with St Kilda City making their way down to The Den but the boys were prepared to take them on with full spirit. The first quarter the boys were caught on the back foot not bothering the scoreboard and the second only registering 2 majors. The second half was a different story with the boys getting a couple of late ones. This reporter has never seen such high spirits from a group of players at ¾ time when you are sill 5 goals down but to the boys credit they got the first 3 of the last quarter to get within 18 points. Unfortunately St Kilda then banged on 4 late goals, which really didn’t reflect how well the Dingoes played. Pitty starred once again and Captain Tony played his best for the year. 2 great goals by his brother on the run from 50 out will be much talked about for a while….from himself! Barthy held up in the middle once again and Wonnacott showed a few weeks off haven’t hurt.
Reserves: The excitement was in the air for this much anticipated game at Souter Oval. In what was a scrappy first half the boys got the jump on St Kilda but took they came back in the second quarter to trail ever so slightly at the main break. The third quarter did the boys well with them kicking away with the help of some Wallis magic from the pocket. This guy would have to be one of the best kicks in the team something the coach has noted I’m sure. We all know Jason has! The final quarter allowed the boys to finish the job they had started and had it not been for some errant kicking the scoreboard would have read even more in our favour. Brett Smith was excellent across halfback along with Ringer and Andy Park in support, as always the young guys continue to shine and are only getting better.
Colts: Dingley Colts came up against a very strong St Kilda City side and showed us why they are the team to beat. We started poorly and although we did show some signs of the form we are capable of, came up well short and now need to really work hard and continue to improve the areas of our game that are required to mix it with the top sides. Mat Wilcox worked hard around the ground, Steve Comino never stopped trying and Chris Baxter should be happy with his game but all others can improve on their individual performances.
Ladies day this week as we welcome East Brighton to The Den. Let’s get behind the mums, wives & partners who have done so much for all the boys and have a great day and come away with 3 good wins!
Seniors: Travelling back to the Springy ground evokes many memories most notably last years flag win. Springy were always a tough opponent in Divvy 2 and we knew it was going to be tough going again. The first half certainly set the ground work where the boys were relentless against the opposition with Fordy booting 4 before half time. Hopefully the kid who had just turned 18 will keep going from strength to strength. The second half the Springy boys came out fighting kicking 8 goals to our 4 however after the solid first half it was enough to get us home. Mainy was as hard as ever Lukey Bart played out the game on the ball showing his engine is just as big as his guns!! St Kilda make their way down to The Den today, we hope you enjoy our hospitality at the club. The pressure will be on for the boys with a very big test against the top side.
Reserves: Today, with 3rd spot in contention, our boys had a huge job to do against our biggest rival from '07. The 1st half was a goal for goal affair between 2 sides both running the ball very well in the best of conditions at Springy. After the big break, the Dingoes never waivered against a tough opposition and banged on 10 goals to 3 in a well fought contest. Congrats to all our boys who did the Club proud ! Our depth in the club from Reserves to Colts and Juniors only gets better!
Colts: Dingley Colts took on Highett and after a tight period in the first quarter, they welcomed the big open spaces of the Springvale ground, and ran out comfortable winners by 161 points. Highett however should be congratulated as they ran out the game and never stopped trying, but couldn't stop our forward targets of Mat Wilcox (9 goals) and Harry (5 goals) who both had terrific games. Andrew Green played his best game for his new club with a close to best on the ground performance, playing on the ball unchanged the entire game. Others to show were Jack Zeler when shifted onto the ball, Josh Maclaren running out of defence, and Mat Ravenall for a solid 4 quarter effort. We welcome St.Kilda City to the Den today, with top of the ladder up for grabs, with this game proving where we sit in this competition.
This Saturday night 50’s night. Lets get the first function of the year off to a flyer and enjoy the night.
Seniors: With Cheltenham travelling to The Den for the first time it was the perfect opportunity to wear the original jumper from 1959 and to kick off our first past player’s day for the year.
After getting a pep talk from 2 players from the original side, the boys took to the field all guns blazing. The Rosellas however put a dampener on the celebrations kicking away in the second half and the boys couldn’t respond.
Bret Lavars had one of his best for the year and new recruit Jack Clausen showed he can mix it with the best.
Reserves: With a great day in store at the Den and another Colts win, our boys wore the 1959 jumper with past players there to spur them on!
Cheltenham came with their young running brigade to spoil the party. Big efforts from double Parks, Wallis, Spud, Col and Joel will not win big games when others go missing!
Thanks to Cheltenham club umpire James for his Solo effort and a great job! Congrats to Jake Mullins on a senior spot.
Colts: We welcomed Cheltenham Colts to the Den to what proved to be a very hard fought game with scores very close all day.
Daniel Morris again showed why he is developing into one of the leading midfielders in the competition with another best on the ground performance.
Strong games from Matt Ravenall and Harry down back, Michael Bruce and Sam Williams getting plenty of it across the middle and with Mat Wilcox and Phil Ball giving us plenty to aim for up forward we managed a 23 point victory.
With some hard games to follow in the coming weeks, we will have to continue to improve.
Congrats: to Morgs, Turks, Wonnacott, Joshy Boyle being selected for the interleague squad and Phil Ball, Steve Comino, Andrew Staude, Rob Mullen, Adam Hickford, Jack Clausen, Tim Ford, Luke Bartholomew, Tom Cooper, Jack Ades and Matty Wilcox on being selected in the colts. The whole club is proud of you.
This week we head back to Springy after a year away and play for the Khe Sahn cup. As always we look forward to the contest & hospitality that Springy always put on for us.
Remember 50’s night next week see Danny/Emma Atkin for details.
We may have lost the game but we lost no admirers or respect in our valiant effort against the reigning premiers. Save for a disappointing quarter-time score line, we virtually held our own for the rest of the contest.
A healthy (well at least they started off that way) Dingley crowd enjoyed all the hospitality St Pauls had on offer and witnessed a full day’s football with a stirring win by the Colts, an “almost up there” performance by the Reserves, and a “we have arrived in first division” display by the Seniors.
There was no shortage of contributors, and, with coach Quinn trying to eclipse his previous record of interchanges, everybody had their chance to impress. A great 3rd quarter cameo from first gamer Jack Clausen, plus a full and encouraging game from recent new boy Yeowie were complemented by the dedicated work of last minute inclusion (and now media star) Jack Ades. Wonnacott, Turks, Mainy and Gniel were terrific. And Ford? Well, he’s evolving into a Ferrari!
With Greg Scott's return of the house keys to Mckinnon Reserve and some insight into the St Paul's boys, Dingley were a real chance for their 4th win.
Our boys tackled and worked hard all day with big efforts from the young fella Jake all over the ground, his brother Robbie and ever-reliable Captain Courages Spuda. A huge Marsy smother relayed a Pottsy goal late in the 2nd should have spurred us on!
Gaz showed the way with a goal in the 4th, and another 3 goals from our boys left us a couple short of the chocolates!
A special mention to the St Paul's boy who broke his leg' and we hope you have a speedy recovery!

Who would have thought that Dingley, newcomers to the top level, would today be bucking the recent trend of promotion, then relegation, by being involved in what could be billed “Match of the Day”!
Incumbent Premiers St. Pauls could quite ostensibly give our supporters a reality check today, but that’s anathema to the thinking of Quinny, who has spent the week drilling into our players that when eighteen play eighteen, any game is winnable.
We were far too good against departure-riddled Clayton, with a number of players recovering from below-standard efforts the previous week to be among our stars. None more so than Rohan Watson, who, in his best game for the club, engendered triskaidekaphobia (fear of number 13) in the minds of Magpie opponents.
A power failure in the third quarter which forced scores to be displayed on the antediluvian scoreboard heralded a power surge by the Dingoes. The nonpareil Morgan controlled the hit-outs, and I suspect that drills have been done with our midfielders to take advantage of his dominance, as our centre clearance rate was superior to anything seen previously.
Maree Heverin from the SFL delivered an edict during the week to alert us that contributions were to be kept to 300 words. To assist us in adhering to our limit she made a point that best players and goalscorers would be listed in a separate part of this publication. 300? Well, I won’t be saving her any space because my words are longer than anybody elses!
Thanks to our generous sponsors whose identity can be accessed on our website (www.dingleyfc.com.au). You’ll have to shorten your names in order to be listed here. Oops, out of w….
We went to the recently re-tyred (and subsequently resurfaced) Dunlop Reserve with high hopes of a win but Toorongas didn't make it right. The Combine looked on top early when they outscored the Dingoes into the breeze in the first stanza and there were some glum prognostications about the final margin being bandied about.
Largely through the efforts of the younger brigade in Tim Ford, Luke B and the new kids on the block Wannacott and Boyle we managed to stay in contention in a game that oscillated between the backlines, forward lines and powerlines (which I am reliably informed by an ex-Combine player that no-one's managed to hit yet).
Considering the number of usually better contributors that were down on form in the difficult, blustery conditions, the fact that we actually hit the front late in the last quarter suggests that we should harbour no qualms about tackling this adversary with a modicum of confidence in the second round.
Brooksy should be back by then, unless the learned members of the Tribunal take a dimmer than expected view of his recidivism.
The reserves had a comfortable victory to go two-up on Anzac Day weekend, a result unfortunately soured by the season-ending injury to the gallant MJ. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Scotty Hanlon, Adesy and new boy Yeowie were amongst the better players, but no doubt the loudest cheer of the day was in response to the well deserved and well executed goal to Matty Smith.
Back on our home turf today for a clash with neighbouring Clayton which, given the Magpies' ordinary start,we are entitled to think is winnable. This will be on the minds of two of our members in particular, who have had small wager on the outcome with a colourful Clayton identity.
On the Social front, I'm not privy to much information to pass on, suggest everyone check the website regularly for upcoming events, particularly in regard to our ongoing 50 years celebrations.

From his elevated view perched atop the canteen in the now redundant timekeepers box behind the facade of the superseded scoreboard, coach Quinn would have liked what he saw.
Matched up against a team that finished 6th in the premier division last year, the Dingoes followed up their promising practice match form against Keysborough with the kind of performance associated with a well-oiled machine.
Perspective dictates that the result may have been flattering given the number of departures Mordialloc have suffered in the off season, so today's encounter at Tooronga-Malvern may be a more relevant harbinger of where we are likely to sit in the pecking order seventeen weeks from now.
Suffice to say that the perspicacious Hill Club member who made the salient half-time observation "at least we know we won't be back in 2nd division next year" should be on the money.
Encouraging debuts from Josh Boyle and Lee Wonnacott coupled with the form of the Lavars boys, Morgs, Turcarelli, Brookes and Ford put the result beyond doubt very early. Throw in a couple of trademark specials from Dazza and the brilliant forward line structure that saw Frosty and Lefty Vinen snag 7 each and the domination was complete.
The reserves had a good win, and what about those Colts! Congratulations to new coaches Greg and Steve for the work they're doing with these boys, underpinning the strength of this club for now and well into the future.
A special mention to Kevin who volunteered to man one of the walkways to apprehend any miscreants trying to avoid the $5 entry fee. When faced with the objection: "but I'm only walking my dog!" he replied: Oh, so there's two of you-that'll be $10 then!
Membership sales are apparently flying when compared to this time last year, but many more are still required. See Shane F or Nigel T for details.
The Social Calendar should be close to finalised and posted on the website very soon. Much enquiry about the date of the annual potato peelers convention (Ladies Luncheon). There are also many functions planned related to our Fifty Years celebrations, please visit the site for more information.

As the sun rises on another local football season, the feeling of excitement is palpable. We welcome Mordialloc as our opening adversary, on a day which sees a number of firsts for the club.
Our first game in First Division, our first look at the magnificent new scoreboard, our Colts side making their debut. Weather permitting, we will be witnessing the spectacular (that's what a guy told me) unveiling of our first premiership flag in the SFL, and hopefully record our first win of the year.
Nothing different over on The Hill either, where there will be a number of thirsts to be quenched. A first for the SFL as well, with the introduction of a final 5 this season and therefore an additional chance for clubs such as ours hoping to be part of September action.
A huge thankyou to the Bendigo Bank, the Kingston Council and the many workers and volunteers who have made the aforementioned scoreboard a reality. Special mention to Greg Pollard for his electrical work which also involved an upgrade of our ground lighting.
I trust all supporters are cognizant of the fact that entrance will be charged at all venues this year, which makes the purchase of membership all the more attractive. I implore you all to check out the very affordable and varied packages available from the Club.
As part of our 2009 celebrations of 50 years as a football club a number of functions are planned. The website gives more details and the opportunity for past players and supporters to register their interest in being kept up to date with the latest happenings. We urge all of you to do so, especially anyone with knowledge or information that may enrich the history of the Dingley Football Club.
A sincere welcome to all new players and coaches that will be representing us this year, some from far and wide and some who have come back to the fold.
In the immortal words of some Greek from a long time ago: Let the games begin!
Sponsors and Social: We will be thanking and naming our many generous sponsors as the season goes on and the list is finalised. And as yet there is nothing imminent on the Social calendar to report, will be more specific in ensuing issues.
Must include congratulations to Spud and Michelle on the off-season arrival of beautiful little Amber.
A very big and busy month ahead for the Dingoes, by the end of which we should have a fair idea of where we stand in the first division pecking order.
Five big matches in May, including 3 at home starting with Clayton on the 2nd. We also host Cheltenham (16th) and St. Kilda City (30th). And not too far away there is the blockbuster over at Springvale Districts on the 23rd, evoking memories of those classic encounters of 2007.
For any of you who have yet to purchase a membership, there are plenty of inexpensive options available from the club, including home-games only packages to suit those who don’t even travel to places as far away as Chelsea Heights for their holidays!
Any one with even a modicum of involvement in the footy club should know that this year sees our 50 Years Celebrations, which will feature player and premiership reunions, as well as a heritage game played in the original blue and gold jumper. If you or anyone you know has not yet registered their interest in being part of what’s being planned, please visit our website (www.dingleyfc.com.au).
We would particularly like to hear from past coaches and past players, your input and information would be invaluable.
Thanks to some recent precipitation Souter Oval has finally taken on a verdant tinge, a far cry from the summer dustbowl that had us worried prior to season’s start. Let’s hope it stands up to the rigours that will be meted out by 3 senior and some dozen or so junior sides. Nevertheless, it is an issue that needs to be addressed at season’s end. It is disconcerting to observe the obvious chasm in the condition of sporting ovals under the auspices of Kingston Council when compared with those in the neighbouring City of Dandenong.
On a brighter note, sincere thanks to the Kingston Council and the Bendigo Bank for their assistance in making our magnificent new scoreboard a reality. It’s worth a visit to the oval just to see that!
