Rumblings of discontent strong enough to register on the Richter scale have caused the previous “cocky correspondent” to vacate this chair after a short tenure, so I’ll be writing this article from now on. With this change comes a return to humility, diplomacy and political correctness. In line with other offerings in “Around the Clubs”, it will be a cliché-riddled column interspersed with occasional reference to fact.
Reserves; At the end of the day (well actually it was around lunchtime) the twos had a comfortable win against the undermanned Kangaroos who had difficulty putting a score on the board (I always thought that was the scoreboard attendant’s job anyway). Several Dingley players reported leather poisoning, most notably Spudda, MJ, Luke Sherry and Adam Broomhall. Congratulations to Kent Waring for his under-publicised 200th senior club game. Hewzy’s drop in output from 10 goals to only 9 leads to an extrapolation that he could be held goalless in Round 14. Coach Sessler had a good game himself but was not getting carried away with the team success, stating that he was taking things one week at a time. This week that means facing up to the also undefeated Oakleigh.
Seniors; On a horrible, eight degree day at Widdop we witnessed a game played in two halves- (the forward line and the back line-only kidding!). Moorabbin were extremely competitive up until the main break, but we were able to power away with a 9 goal to 2 second half. We went into the game missing our two most productive on-ballers in Turca and Jake. Many a pea is lost when using a fork with only one prong. Fortunately that one remaining midfield prong was Gnielsy, who proceeded to play a blinder. Browndog back from injury and in his first senior game for the year gave him great support in the second half. Joel Gray, Paddy Edwards and Jimmy Farrugia relished the wet conditions and along with Danny, Poppa and Brooksy were notable contributors. Our policy of blooding younger players continued with the elevation of Laragy to join Luke and Jack for a crack at senior football. Well done Jordan.
Memories of last year’s surprise capitulation will be evoked today when we visit the Oaks at Princes Hwy Reserve. Both sides will be fired up for this one so it’s a game not to be missed.
