Back in 1968, Manfred Mann proclaimed: "you've not seen nothing like the Mighty Quinn". Well, we've seen nothing OF the mighty Quinn for a while now, but I've been assured he's recuperating from his injury and subsequent operation that he may have underestimated the seriousness of.

Gnielsy took over the coaching reins against Hampton, with no apparent detriment to his own or the team's performance. In miserable conditions, it was a match witnessed by the smallest attendance I can remember since our induction into the SFL. The low crowd number was exacerbated by having no curtain-raiser and the decision by some of our supporters and hierarchy to give preference to the St.Kilda City-St.Pauls game, presumably to glean a view of what we may have to face next season. I would have thought that you'd just buy a DVD of the clash, until I found out that any highlights involving St.Kilda City are only available on Cassett.

The a-la Krakouer brothers propinquity displayed by the Lavars boys in the first half was cruelly cut short by an unfortunate but fair blow to Bret, who was sent into la-la land for the second time in as many weeks. Common sense would dictate that he will miss at least one and join Pitty, Quinny and Browny on the sidelines. Hopefully Dazza and Tolga will be fit to resume service this week.

In the meantime, we appear to have ample ammunition in the form of replacements, the boys who get called up each week like Joel, Parky, Fordy, Van Stav and Fouldsy do a sterling job. Amongst those who stood out on a day where exhibition-style football was improbable were Morgs, Luke B, Jake, Brooksy, Stevie and, running into ominous form, our pocket dynamo and co-captain Tony.

Courtesy of a late Thursday night phone call to our Prez, the reserves were given an unexpected day off. Not unexpected, however, was their reaction to the options given to them by Sess on Saturday morning. This week the twos get their first chance to play against their former team-mates who left in search of better opportunities to get some game time. Good luck to Frank, Murat and Harders.

First of consecutive home games this week, let's hope for better weather and a bumper turnout on the Hill. Now that the Four is set, let's pray we get all these niggling injuries out of the way and ready ourselves for a full list, full scale tilt at the finals.
