Last Saturday we were visited by a very competitive Lyndale outfit who had enough artillery to keep us honest up till half time. I hear they're adding another string to their bow this week with the return of a celebrated Archer. We wish Lyndale all the best on what will be a highly celebrated day.
Having taken Dingley to their first Grand Final in many a year, resting coach Quinny already holds an elevated status at this club. Last week he attempted to take his coaching to a higher level and could not have looked down on the splendid performances of the two U17 boys in the side. Luke continues to grow in confidence as evidenced by his running and bouncing, and debutant Mullo marks and kicks for goal with the aplomb of a veteran.
Best game of the year from Mainy, top-class contributions from Gnielsy, Morgs, Browndog, Frosty, Dazza and the Lavars boys. Turcs was roaming the field in a near BOG performance, soon he will be Roman in other parts of the world so we won't see him back till near finals time.
This makes the return of Tony to bolster the on-ball brigade all the more timely. If he can conjure up a best-on field effort soon we may have to strike up a special trophy and call it the Academy Award (made of copper of course).
The Reserves' result was a great turnaround from last weeks performance. Nine individual goalkickers including six with two each encapsulated the even spread of talent we have at our disposal, and more than just Spudda, Kingy, Luke H, Jordan, Luke Sherry and Joel Gray were good players. Lowlight for the coach was having to run a 100 metres backwards after giving away successive 50m penalties.
Kangaroo Rd today to face Murrumbeena who, after some of last round's surprise results, are in what appears to be a growing pack of teams chasing a spot in finals. They will be keen to atone for their disappointing first-round showing so we'll need to be on our toes. The famous American coach Vince Lombardi once said "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence". Perhaps that should be our motto today.
