Slow starts have been characteristic of the Dingoes’ seniors this season, probably partly due to the opposition throwing everything they can muster at us early in an attempt to test us out. Not so two weeks ago against Caulfield, where a dominant first half suggested a larger than expected margin over the third-placed Bears. However a fantastic third-quarter comeback by Kappler’s boys where they outscored us six goals to two left us feeling just a little vulnerable for the first time this season, and led to Quinny reading the riot act at the three-quarter time break. Caulfield ran the game right out, but our boys had enough in the tank to complete a eight goal victory. Turcarelli was outstanding; Tolga played his best game in his comeback year. Browndog and Jimmy were among the best, and Dazza showed again how good he is at getting off the ground.

The Reserves weren’t extended in their midday encounter, as the 133 point margin implies. Van Stav, Parky, Scotty Maitland, Adesy and Luke Sherry were all good. Those that think Spudda is pushing for a senior recall would be right, based on his recent form. However, he has finally realised that he is now older than he ever was before and is happy to see out his playing days at the lower level. Some of us though that Hewzy could have done more, but he’ll no doubt put his own spin on it by insisting to all and Sundry that he single-handedly doubled the opposition’s goal tally.

I must make a special mention of Caulfield player Scott Handley, who in response to a series of vituperative barbs from the vociferous Hill Club, turned to them and said “Hey guys, I’m only playing football so I don’t have to go shopping with the missus!” Needless to say, he wasn’t given a hard time for the rest of the day.

Just a few injury concerns heading into today’s blockbuster against the Tunners. Recently we’ve had a hammy, a heel, a shoulder and a hip. Now there’s a report of a player carrying a bit of a knee. I just hope he puts it down before he attempts to fly for a mark!
